What you will learn:
You will learn how to make simple pieces of jewellery e.g. a ring, a bangle, earrings and a pendant. No previous experience is required. All tools for the courses are provided and additional materials can be bought from us e.g. silver wire, silver sheet, beads etc. A starter kit will be provided free of charge, which will include: 10 square cm copper 10 square cm of 0.7mm silver sheet, 3x2mm silver wire to make a bangle & ring, and 0.8mm wire for wirework.
Brief outline of the course:
You will learn all the basic silversmithing skills you will need to make beautiful jewellery.
Marking out and sawing;
Filing and emerying;
3 soldering techniques including butt and sweat soldering;
Making ear wires and findings;
Forging and annealing using steel forms;
Using hammers to texture
Using a rolling mill
You can expect to make 5 or 6 items depending on the complexity of your designs. There will be the opportunity to learn bezel stone setting for those who progress quickly through the week.
We will start at 10am and finish at 4pm. Teaching will begin in the morning, giving you time to design your piece, and in the afternoon begin making your jewellery.
